Stonehenge, England
An amazing set of circular monoliths rise in England: Stonehenge. This megalithic was built between -2800 and -1100 in the county of Wiltshire. With another set of stones, Avebury Henge, it is a World Heritage Site, under the name of "Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites".

Each year, a million visitors come to enjoy the magic of the place. The different forms that we see today would have been made in three stages, called Stonehenge 1, 2 and 3 between each time, stones were carved and erected and others were deliberately displaced . The different stages of construction of the site are very complex. It was abandoned in the early centuries. What we see today is not very far from what the site looked when it was built.

Many researches were conducted to date the building of the site and find its history and its usefulness. It was established that the Druids have practiced rituals at Stonehenge, but they are not the ones responsible for its construction because their religion is too new. Some theories do not make Stonehenge a place of worship and ritual, but rather an astronomical tool. Indeed, at certain times, the sun aligns perfectly with the most impressive element of the site. Many mysteries this place despite numerous research conducted.

The Nazca Lines, Peru
Walking in Peru, it is possible to notice marks on the ground rather surprising. It is all the more surprising that these gigantic traces forms very precise figures, sometimes extending for several kilometers. The geoglyphs were drawn by the Nazca people who lived in Peru between the years 300 and 800, they are listed as World Heritage since 1994.

The ground on which these figures is gray, because of the colored iron oxide stones. The Nazca, removing the stones over long distances revealed a lighter soil underneath, which allowed the creation of its forms. The Nazca worshiped animal deities as evidenced by the pottery found and it is possible that they have well represented during rituals: monkey, dog, condor (pictured above), etc. The geoglyphs are not just animals. There is also geometrical shapes, such as lines and spirals.

Today, over 350 plots were discovered. They are preserved through a dry microclimate, warm and no wind or vegetation to cover the lines. The mystery when the reasons for creating his drawings. Some theories suggest shamanic and magical rituals or fancier like the figures used to locate water sources or that the message to the aliens theories! The most likely theory is that of the tribute to animal deities.

The Moai of Easter Island, Polynesia

When the Easter of the year 1722, a Dutch sailor arrived at a lost in the middle of the Pacific Ocean island, there was no doubt stunned by what he saw: an island with very little vegetation, but impressive number of statues!

Today, the 400 Moai statues of Easter Island are famous and attract many tourists. They are also listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. These monoliths most of which have been carved in a rock called tuff. Measuring between 2 and 10 meters, these stone giants can weigh up to 80 tons! The first statues date from the 1100s, however, it is possible to see the unfinished sculptures in stone quarry, as if stonemasons were arrested without cause in 1600.

The Moai are like gods and apparently used the ancient cults. Venerate brought the people a protection against the outside world. The rites are largely unknown, and the mysteries still prevail around manufacturing. But the biggest mystery to how the statues were transported, is now pierced. Through reconstructed and discover that this island was once forested, we now know that the tailors were using sleds and wooden logs to move the statues. It is very likely that once the wood of the island totally exhausted, transportation could be more, which led to a shutdown of the Moai sculptures.
